Position: Algal Researcher
Background
Sinéad is a PhD researcher at Bournemouth University where she studies macroalgal mats in estuarine ecosystems in collaboration with South West Water. She is interested the ecological impacts of algal mats on wading birds and their invertebrate prey species. She uses a range of field survey techniques including UAV imagery, core sampling and avian ethology. Her goal is to produce an individual-based model to inform wading bird conservation in areas affected by an increase in algal mats. She joined the University of Southampton where she helps to collate and disseminate outputs from the SARTRAC Project. She hopes to help to develop educational materials and public policy documents to maximise the outreach and impact of SARTRAC.
