We are looking forward to extending the reach of our current Sargassum Outlook Bulletin to the wider Atlantic region”
says Professor Hazel Oxenford, expert in applied marine biology and marine management at the University of the West Indies in Barbados.

“There are so many different species of sargassum; if we are able to identify the morphotypes at sea, that might enable us to track where the different species are coming from.
The most exciting part of SARTRAC is working with partners in Jamaica and West Africa. We are hoping to improve the accuracy of our sargassum forecasts, and extend out sargassum seasonal outlook with partners beyond the Eastern Caribbean.”
